Don’t miss out on these 4 museums in Ibiza

On a summer morning before heading to the beach, on a rainy day, during the winter months… There are many occasions you could take the opportunity to visit one of Ibiza’s museums, all of which will show you another side that the island has to offer: its history and its culture. Get inside your rental car from Moto Luis and head out to discover what Ibiza can teach you.

Puget Museum

On one of the main streets in Dalt Vila, on “Calle Major”, you will find a collection of watercolours and oil paintings by Narcís Puget and Narcís Puget Riquer, an interesting artwork that shows each visitor what Ibiza used to look like during the first half of the twentieth century. Through both artists’ work you will learn the traditions, the traditional dances and outfits, what rural life was like and the celebrations that took place on the island back then. Admission is free.

Ethnography Museum of Ibiza

During this visit you will learn Ibiza’s daily life traditions from long ago as well as the architectural characteristics of traditional houses on the island, as Can Ros, the building that hosts this collection, is a perfect example of Ibizan traditional architecture. It is located in the monumental complex of Puig de Missa in Santa Eulalia and this museum shows customary clothing, jewellery, houseware, field equipment and various manual crafts, musical instruments, weapons and other items of personal use.

Contemporary Art Museum of Ibiza (MACE)

Also in Dalt Vila, a few metres away from Ibiza’s plaza you will find the Contemporary Art Museum of Ibiza. Amongst its permanent collection there are two interesting Japanese etching samples and artisan posters of the 70s, also, there is also a selection of museum holdings or contemporary paintwork. MACE also organizes stimulating temporary exhibitions dedicated to both national and international Contemporary artists. Admission is free.

Monographic Museum and Puig des Molins Necropolis

Visiting this location in Ibiza town will enable you to see one of the most important necropolises in the Mediterranean due to its conservation status and the number of graves which are also very diverse. This visit includes an annex of the Archeological Museum too were important Phoenician, Punic and Roman remains are on show and inside burial chambers lay: necklaces, bronze and lead tools, vessels, projectiles, charms, coins and other objects. A true journey into the past of the island!
