5 planes to enjoy Ibiza in February

1. Calçot (a type of green onion, traditional from Catalunya)

During February 5th and February 19th, Bar Can Berri celebrates, like every year, a calçot menú. This tasty meal is something you can also try if you are in Ibiza during 5th or 26th March. And what exactly does the calçot menu include? This closed menú includes calçot and meat barbecue, calçots are sweet onions that are eaten along with a tasty sauce. 2. Hiking with Toby

One of the best options to go hiking are the walks that this Ibiza native (with British parents) offers. His deep love for the island is noticeable due to the thought he puts into each one of his hikes, the routes will vary depending on the selected difficulty. You can either book a private hike or join one of his walks that are open to the public for which Toby only asks for a donation (suggested ammount: 10 €). 3. On Thursdays, have dinner at Santa Eulària des Riu

During this month, this town celebrates “Gastrojueves”, were over a dozen restaurants take part. What do they offer? 50% off food from their menus. Also, clients have two hours of free parking and a voucher to enjoy a sesión at “España” Theatre at half price.

4. For lunch, order “arroz de matanzas” (homemade rice dish)

This rice in broth made with mushrooms, pork and chicken is one of the traditional winter dishes in Ibiza. Until a few years ago it was not easy to find this on restaurant menus, as it was a dish that was only served on the day the pig was killed. Fortunately, you can now enjoy this tasty specialty at more than one restaurant and, also, all year round. As it is a dish which will make you feel very full, we recommend you complete it with light dishes only.

One of our favourite places to eat homemade rice is at Es Pins restaurant: it stands out for its flavours and very generous servings. Also, as an appetizer they serve the best allioli (garlic mayonnaise) in Ibiza.

5. Almond trees in bloom

If the preceding month have not been warmer than usual, around these dates, almond trees in Ibiza will be in full blossom. This stunning natural sight barely lasts two or three weeks and it dresses in white all the island’s valleys. Around Santa Agnès de Corona’s town there is the largest number of almond trees in Ibiza. Rent a car and head towards Pla de Corona, where you will be able to park and take a walk around the valley. If you are in Ibiza on 11th February, you can enjoy the scenery also by car. During the town’s local holidays and making the most of the full moon, Sant Antoni de Portmany’s town hall (visit.santantoni.net) will organize their famous night walk amongst the almond trees.
