Ibiza Medieval Market 2025
The Ibiza medieval market has become one of the must-attend events on the calendar of events on the Balearic island. This year’s edition will be held from the 9th to 12th of May and promises to be even more extensive and entertaining. If you’re in Ibiza, don’t miss it!
Last year marked the 25th anniversary of the first medieval market held in Ibiza in 1999, to mark the declaration of Dalt Vila as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as part of the Ibiza, Biodiversity and Culture project. During all these years, and with the exception of the summer of 2020, each edition has brought together thousands of locals and tourists who have come to enjoy its gastronomy, crafts and entertainment. An event for all ages that has grown in popularity to attract more than 150,000 visitors in recent years, which has made it one of the great spring events in Ibiza.
Where is the Ibiza medieval market held?
Since its origins, the market has spread along the narrow streets and squares of Dalt Vila, the citadel that crowns the city of Ibiza. However, and due to its popularity, the fair has jumped the walls and has spread throughout the neighbourhood of La Marina, including the Vara de Rey promenade (also called S’Alamera). As a new feature in last year’s edition, the medieval market stalls extended to the port, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the city’s historic center. In 2025, this market expansion is set to continue, along with the reservation of 75 stalls for local artisans to sell their products, as well as for other street vendors residing on the island who offer handcrafted goods or Mediterranean gastronomic products related to Christian, Arab, or Sephardic cultures.
What awaits you at the medieval market in Ibiza?
More than 200 craft stalls and around a hundred professional actors and musicians take part in Ibiza’s medieval market. During your stroll, you will find gastronomic and cosmetic products, as well as jewellery, ceramics, leather goods, fashion, accessories and traditional objects. And on the entertainment side, the performance programme includes magic shows, puppet shows, falconry, dancing and music.
The Ibiza medieval market not only offers entertainment for adults, but also features activities designed specifically for children and families, such as traditional games, craft workshops, puppet shows and other interactive activities. In short, this all-ages event offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the island’s history and culture in a fun and festive way.
What is so special about this market compared to others in the country?
- TIt is in a unique location: Dalt Vila is a Renaissance fortified citadel declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO due to the great influence it had on the design of the fortifications of the Spanish settlements in the New World.
- The historic atmosphere of its narrow streets, buildings and squares make the experience even more memorable.
- As it is held at the beginning of the summer season, it offers a cosmopolitan atmosphere due to the visit of tourists from northern and central Europe, which is common in the months of May and June.
-
You can combine this experience with activities that will let you welcome summer ahead of schedule: take a dip in the sea—yes, in May, it’s already possible to swim in Ibiza’s beaches and coves—, enjoy a paella with views of Cala d’Hort and Es Vedrà, go on a day trip to Formentera, or take a scenic hiking route. And if you love art, while strolling through the medieval market in Dalt Vila, you can visit the Ibiza Museum of Contemporary Art and the Puget Museum.
-
This is an invitation to escape to Ibiza, enjoying hotel stays at more affordable prices than during peak season.
