Our neighbouring island definitely deserves more than a one day trip, but as we know that the majority of travellers get to know Formentera for the first time during their holidays in Ibiza, we will now recommend what to do during your first 8 hours in paradise. Also, as we know that you are going to love it and that you are likely to go back in the future, we will suggest more places to visit and things to do during longer stays on another post ūüėČ

Before we begin: How do you reach Formentera?

The island is linked to Ibiza through various shipping companies such as Balearia and Transmapi, the most recommended option when you are travelling to the island for more than one day, as you can carry equipment and vehicles. If you only need to go there and back after a one day trip, the best option is to go for companies that do daily routes, like the ones offered by Ulises Cat as their comfortable and safe catamarans go there several times a day from Figueretes and en Bossa beaches.

Once there, how will you get from one point to the next in Formentera?

If you only want to enjoy a fabulous day at the world-famous beach of Ses Illetes, you can take the bus that goes from the La Savina port or rent a bicycle, one of travellers most popular means of transport. But if you want to explore the island and make the most of your trip, the best thing to do is to rent a scooter or a car. The port has several companies that offer this service.

What shall you see during a one day trip in Formentera?

If you have gone for a car or a scooter, make sure you include the following stops during your route:

Sant Francesc Xavier: go inside the church and take a look at the wide walls. After, go shopping and have a coffee on the main street.
Cap Barbaria: Its lighthouse is one of the island’s symbols and the scenery you will see on the way to it is a good example of Formentera’s traditional agricultural landscape.
Pilar de la Mola: going to the furthest town from the port is a great pretext to see the excellent views that are visible from the road which leads to it and to have a cold beer with a view of the other island’s emblematic lighthouse.
Ses Illetes: the most famous beach in Formentera is a long unspoilt stretch of sand with turquoise waters that could well be a postcard of the Caribbean. It’s a true natural pool that will remain in your memory forever.

Where should you eat during your trip in Formentera?

We recommend that you do not eat in Illetes but in other places of the island such as Es Mitjorn beach (Es Codol Foradat and Vogamarí) or at Caló de Sant Agustí (Es Caló and Can Rafalet). At either of these four restaurantes you can enjoy tasty rice and paellas.
