The hidden Ibiza: the altarpiece of Jesus
There are always treasures to discover in Ibiza. It doesn’t matter how many times you have travelled to the island. One of those secrets that the travellers often miss awaits in the town of Jesus, just 3 kilometres from the city of Ibiza. If you are an art lover and you don’t want to miss it, get in your rental car and head for this unique discovery.
The church of Jesus
Located next to the road that leads to Cap Martinet, this temple usually goes unnoticed in the eyes of the visitors that pass by on their way to the northern end of the bay of Talamanca. A shame because its interior keeps a jewel of the artistic heritage of Ibiza: the main altarpiece. If you are an art lover you will surely appreciate this late 15th century artwork composed of 25 pieces, where God’s mother is represented. Its execution illustrates late Gothic period and Italian Renaissance. Besides this piece of great value, the church also has characteristic features of the island’s temples: the unique nave of the church, the choir, the side chapels and the porch.
After the visit…
-Come to eat grilled fish in “Cuatro Latas”, a rustic beach bar located in the north end of Talamanca, next to the restaurant Sa Punta. If you visit it in Winter, then try the paella at the Bar Flotante, another classic of the beach of Talamanca.
– Wait for the sunset having a cup of cofee or a glass of wine on the terrace of Sa Calma in Marina Botafoc. From here you will enjoy fantastic views ver Dalt Vila and La Marina area.
